President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abdullahi Garba Ramat, aged 39, as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
According to a statement released on Thursday by the presidential spokesperson, Ramat is an accomplished electrical engineer and administrator with a PhD in strategic management, among other academic and professional credentials.
Alongside Ramat’s nomination, President Tinubu also put forward two additional candidates to serve on the NERC board: Mr. Abubakar Yusuf, nominated as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun, nominated as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.
The Presidency emphasized that all appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.
However, to prevent a leadership vacuum at the commission, President Tinubu directed that Engr. Ramat immediately assume duties in an acting capacity pending his confirmation by the Senate, in line with legal provisions.
The President urged the appointees to apply their expertise and commitment in advancing the administration’s vision for the power sector.
Recall that Ramat succeeds Sanusi Garba as the head of NERC.
