FCT Police Forestall Purposed Attacks… Storms Kidnappers ‘ Hideouts, Arrests Ex- Convict & 3 Orhers

The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the FCT Police Command on 1st October 2024, acting on credible intelligence, trailed and arrested four notorious kidnappers who have been terrorizing the Federal Capital Territory namely: Yau Sani, a.k.a. Baba (an ex-convict), Nuhu, a.k.a. Giwa, Kabiru Mohammed and Yusuf Hassan, at their criminal hideout in Sauka, Abuja living within the general population.

The suspects confessed to being responsible for series of kidnappings of unsuspecting residents in FCT and its environs, the killing of seven victims in the process.These gang have attacked Dakwa, Dawaki, Aco Estate, Dupe Village Zuma Rock, Kuchiko village and some villages in Niger and Kaduna. They also led Police operatives to another hideout in Gauraka Forest, Suleja, Niger State, where they dug out four AK-47 rifles, thirteen AK-47 magazines, one hundred and sixty-two (162) rounds of 7.6 mm live ammunition.

The suspects also confessed their intending plans to attack some government institutions and estates within the FCT, which have been proactively prevented by the Command. SP Josephine Adeh, the command spokesperson said the Police wishes to reiterate its commitment to stamping out crime and criminality within the FCT. Tricycle Operator Leads Delta Police To Burst Child-Trafficking Ring, Three-Day,-Old Baby Rescued, Two Suspects Nabbed

The Delta state commissioner of police, Mr Olufemi Abaniwonda has commended a commercial tricycle rider in the state for his heroic act that led to the bursting of a child trafficking ring and rescue of a three-day-old baby.According to the Command Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Edafe Bright on Tuesday this week, at about 1830hours, a tricycle rider (name withheld) came to Ekpan police station and reported that while he was on his daily commercial operation, four women boarded his tricycle, on reaching Efurrun roundabout, two of these women alighted from the tricycle.

One of the two women who alighted came to hand over a newborn baby boy to the women left in his tricycle. The tricycle man said he heard one of them saying, the balance has been paid while saying that when they get to their destination, they should inform her. The tricycle rider smartly diverted the two women, Tessy Ikechukwu, and Lauretta Akomen, and the newborn baby to Ekpan Police Station. Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the suspects Lauretta Akomen ‘f’ aged 38yrs bought the baby for the sum of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000) from a traditional home located in Portharcourt where they harbour teenage girls, and got men to have sex with them till they are pregnant after which they sell the babies to people looking for children.

The suspect also revealed that she was given a drug which she took for some time to make her look pregnant. She later led the DPO, CSP Aliyu Shaba and operatives to the house of one Gloria (surname unknown) who acted as an agent between her and the traditional home. Suspects are in custody while a manhunt for the other accomplices is ongoing.

PSC APPROVES POSTING OF FOUR CPs TO STATE COMMANDS, ABANIWONDA REMAINS IN DELTA, OPARA MOVED TO CROSS RIVERS

The Police Service Commission has approved the postings of four Commissioners of Police to head State Commands in the Country.

CP Abaniwonda Olufemi recently moved to Rivers State Command has been returned as Commissioner of Police Delta State Command.CP Peter Ukachi Opara has finally been deployed to Cross Rivers State Command. He was earlier appointed the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, FCT Command, moved to Delta State but has now been posted to head the Cross Rivers State Command.

CP Mustapha Mohammed Bala from Katsina State has been posted to Rivers State, while Gyogon Augustine Grimah from Nasarawa State has been posted to Kaduna State Command.The approval for the postings has been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police for implementation in a letter signed by Commission Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu rtd, mni, PSC, NPM

Lagos CP Set To Crush Criminal Elements

The deployment of a crack, seasoned police chief, Ishola Olawale Olarewaju to head the Lagos state police command by the authorities through the office of the Inspector-general of Police, IGP, the Police Service Commission, PSC, was not only greeted with great enthusiasm by stakeholders in security matters, but was welcomed by his colleagues who knows his pedigree.For old crime reporters and security experts, the posting of Olarewaju to Lagos, shows the determination by IGP Kayode Egbetokun to send warning signal to criminal elements in the state.

This assignment given to the police chief with vast knowledge of Lagos, surely, would lead to drastic reductions in violent crimes. To prove his worth, he hit the ground running last week by meeting with his subordinates, operatives from sister’s agencies, journalists and stakeholders in security Matters to synergized. This move has yielded fruits with last week arrests of no fewer than 38 suspected criminals. Close associates confirmed his get-up-and-go policing methodology.

Similarly, with an unsurpassed record of serving as DPO in no fewer than seven police stations in the state, he would not only improve upon where his predecessor, AIG Adegoke Fayoade stopped, but ensure that he gives his very best to the people of the state.Also,the sustainability of this commitments by Olarewaju and collaborative efforts by all in the state, the police under him is good to go in checking the activities of criminals and hoodlums .

Argungu Visits Site For Police Service Commission Institute In Kano, Says Oversight Of Police Gets New Momentum, impressed with facilities on ground

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu rtd, mni, yesterday, Saturday, September 28th, 2024, paid a surprise visit to the site of a proposed Police Service Commission Institute located at the serene City of Kabo in Kano State.

The Institute, when passed into Law by the National Assembly and when signed by Mr. President, is expected to provide an international training platform for Staff of the Police Service Commission in its oversight responsibilities on the Police.

The Constitution currently empowers the Commission to oversight the Police in the areas of appointment, promotion, dismissal and disciplinary control and also grants the Commission the power to initiate and implement policies for the effective running of the Police as it relates to the functions covered in the law.

According to Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission’s spokesman, while Speaking at the site in Kabo, the PSC Chairman said the oversight responsibilities of the Commission is taking a new and positive momentum as the Staff of the Commission will now have the opportunity to receive world class training in the different areas of oversight in line with established corporate governance template.

The Institute, he said, will be free of corruption and will also be of international standard. ” It will also be open to receive foreign trainees from across the world where there are institutions established to oversight the Police.

DIG Argungu who expressed happiness at the level of facilities already at the Institute commended the facilitator of the Bill and the Senate Committe Chairman on Police Affairs, Senator Abdulhamid Mallam Madori (Jigawa East) for his innovative and progressive disposition, stressing that the Institute will be Nigeria’s gift to the world in the area of Police oversight.

He assured that the Commission will continue to support the efforts to see to the reality of the Institute, which he said will revolutionise Police oversight in this part of the world.

PSC Inaugurates Anti Corruption And Transparency Unit ..Argungu Charges Team

The Police Service Commission Anti Corruption and Transparency Unit was today, Tuesday, September 24th 2024, inaugurated. The inauguration was conducted by a team from the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, led by Olusegun Adigun, who represented the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN.Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu rtd, mni, told the new team that they are now in the temple of justice and should eschew tribal and religious sentiments in the discharge of their duty.

DIG Argungu reminded them that it is Nigeria first and that they should feel free to blow the whistle on him if found guilty of Corrupt Practices. “Come and confront me if you hear that I have diverted money. Don’t waste time to hold me accountable for any financial infractions”, he declared.

He said they should operate above the yoke of tribalism, nepotism and religious sentiments and bring all bad elements in the Commission to book. You have to be upright, he further advised the new Members of the Unit.The Chairman of the ICPC, who spoke through Olusegun Adigun said the Anti Corruption Transparency Unit is an initiative of the ICPC approved by the Federal Government to serve as an in- house check mechanism for Corruption prevention within “MDAs, in line with global best practices of building strong institutions and entrenching Good governance in the fight against corruption “.He said ACTU complements the ICPC in building strong institutions and fostering principles of accountability and Transparency in Government MDAs.The ICPC Chairman said the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the Commission will be a veritable tool in the achievement of PSC vision of becoming a highly motivated, professional, disciplined and accountable Police Service that upholds human rights ” if allowed to effectively discharge its functions “.According to the ICPC Chairman, ” it is hoped that with this inauguration, the Unit will be empowered to deliver on its mandate but noted “that ACTU is not envisioned as a parallel authority to the Management, rather it is expected to operate under the direct oversight of the Chairman so as to complement Management’s efforts in promoting Transparency and accountability within the Commission “DIG Taiwo Lakanu, Honourable Commissioner in the Commission pledged the support of the Commission in ensuring that the Unit succeeds in this onerous assignment.”

We will cooperate with the Chairman, work with him and propagate his lofty ideals to make the Commission Corrupt free.Spokesman of the Commission, Ikechukwuu Ani confirmed that the new Chairman of the PSC ACTU, Nasidi Yusuf in his acceptance speech after the inauguration pledged to uphold the principle of integrity, accountability and transparency, forster a culture of zero tolerance for corruption and ensure seamless collaboration with ICPC and other stakeholders.

Mr. Nasidi said the new team will promote education and awareness on anti’ Corruption best practices, address corruption related issues promptly and called on his other Members to join him to identify and mitigate Corruption risks, develop and implement effective anti Corruption strategies and monitor and evaluate progress.

PCRC Delegation Visits PSC, Volunteers To Serve Nigeria As Police Constabulary For Free… commends the President for appointing DIG Argungu as Chairman

A full nation wide delegation of the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, led by its National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan was in the Police Service Commission Corporate Headquarters, Jabi, Abuja, today, Monday, September 23rd, 2024 where they commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment of DIG Hashimu Argungu rtd, mni as the Chairman of the Commission.

Alhaji Olaniyan led a strong delegation that included Officers from both the National, Zonal and state leaders of the Committee.

The visiting delegation was received by the PSC Chairman and the Management of the Commission. The Commission Chairman noted that the Public are the Police stressing that without their support and cooperation the Police will not make a success of their duty to maintain law and order and ensure security across the nation.

DIG Argungu said it is the public that will give the Police information for their work, adding that without this information, it will be difficult for the Police to fight crime and criminality in the country. According to him it is the absence of crime that shows or confirms that the security Agencies are working and not the number of bandits arrested.

He said the Commission will continue to partner the Police Community Relations Committee and advised that they should not relent in assisting the Police from the Divisional level, through the State and national level. “You need to continue to assist the DPOs, Area Commanders, Commissioners of Police Zonal AIGs and the Inspector General of Police ” he noted.

ikechukwu Ani, the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, disclosed that .the PSC Chairman declared that the Committee has rendered sacrificial services to the nation and urged that they should not be discouraged.

The National Chairman of the Committee Alhaji Olaniyan had commended Mr. President for the appointment of DIG Argungu as Chairman of the Commission.

He informed the PSC Chairman that his members were ready to take up the assignment of the rested Constabulary without salary as their contribution to national security especially in these critical period of national development.

According to him “we have Lawyers, Doctors, Engineers etc and we are ready to give the Police one million volunteers for crowd control”. This he said will free the Police to handle some other challenging assignments.

The PCRC Chairman said the Committee is ready to support the Federal Government in this direction as Community Policing Officers.

Edo: Police embark on show-of-force to dissuade residents against post-election violence

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Edo State governorship election, DIG Frank Mba, has activated the post-election security strategy of the Force.

This include, but not limited to, Show of Force Exercise, designed to boost the confidence of citizens and to reassure of the readiness of the Force to respond appropriately to any possible threat to public safety and security in the State.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, added that in line with the post-election security strategy, the DIG ordered enhanced deployment in and around INEC facilities, key stakeholders involved in the election and other critical infrastructure within the State.

“Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force calls on citizens to remain peaceful and law abiding while going about their endeavours. The Force however warns against any conduct by any individual or group capable of disrupting the existing peace in the State, noting that the Force and the security forces are prepared than ever before to ensure continuous peace in the State,” the statement added.
