In compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, on the need to resuscitate lecture sessions with corpers across the country with a view to reshaping their minds for a better life ahead of them. The commissioner of Police, Delta state, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, detailed the Police Public Relations officer, SP Edafe Bright, to the NYSC orientation camp on for this purpose.
In an an insightful engagement, the corpers were lectured on topics such as Cybercrime, law enforcement, Rights, responsibility of citizens, police accountability, and community Policing. The corpers were engaged, and it was an interactive session where questions and observations were raised, which were given proper answers to the delight of the corpers in attendance.
The corpers were encouraged to remain good ambassador of their country, stay away from crime, shun all forms of violence, be kind, honest in their opinions, and in their future endeavours. The importance of knowing their rights and the rights of others was also emphasized while reiterating the importance of their freedom and that anything that could take away their freedoms should be avoided at all costs. The corpers were also lectured on their responsibilities as citizens, which as outlined in section 24 of the Nigerian 1999 constitution as amended, some of which include but not limited to respecting the constitution and institutions, promoting national interest, showing patriotism, maintaining law and order by assisting law enforcement agencies to maintain peace within the community, etc.
On Police accountability, avenues of complaints were made available, phone numbers, and other means of reaching out to the Police in cases of complaints against Police actions.
