The Executive Director of Special Duties, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest (Zone D), has commended the swift and intelligence-driven response of the Ogun State Police Command in the successful rescue of the abducted students of Gateway Polytechnic, Sapade. The timely intervention and coordinated operation carried out by the tactical units under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, stand as a remarkable demonstration of professionalism, courage, and commitment towards the protection of lives and maintenance of public safety within Ogun State.
The successful rescue operation, which was executed without any casualty among security operatives, further reflects the effectiveness of proactive policing, intelligence gathering, and rapid tactical response in addressing criminal activities. Such dedication and gallantry displayed by the Ogun State Police Command deserve public recognition and commendation, particularly at a time when security concerns continue to demand collaborative and decisive action from all stakeholders.
This development also serves as an important reminder to students and residents within the Sapade axis and neighbouring communities to remain highly vigilant and security conscious at all times. Security must be viewed as a collective responsibility, and students are encouraged to promptly report suspicious movements, unusual gatherings, or any information capable of assisting security agencies in apprehending criminal elements. Members of the public are advised to make effective use of the emergency contact lines provided by the Ogun State Police Command: Gateway Shield (Toll-Free): 0800 000 9111; 0906 283 7609; 0912 014 1706; 0915 102 7369; and 0708 497 2994.
NANS Southwest (Zone D) encourages the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of institutions within the axis to establish stronger collaboration with the nearest police formations and other security stakeholders in ensuring peace and safety across campuses and host communities. Regular security engagements, awareness campaigns, and community policing initiatives will greatly enhance trust, improve information sharing, and strengthen rapid response mechanisms whenever security threats arise. Students must also endeavour to speak up whenever they observe or suspect criminal activities around them, as silence and negligence often create opportunities for criminality to thrive unnoticed. Through collective vigilance, timely reporting, and active participation, students and residents can contribute meaningfully towards building a safer academic environment and a more secure society.
