A wave of shock has swept through Akungba-Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State following the sudden death of a 71-year-old cleric, Mr. Omotayo Ezekiel Fajana, who was found lifeless in a hotel room just hours before his planned installation ceremony.
Fajana had travelled to Akungba-Akoko for a church programme at Ogo Orimolade C&S Church, Okerigbo, where he was scheduled to be officially crowned as the Head Prayer Warrior Father of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church.
However, the anticipated celebration turned tragic when he was discovered dead in his hotel accommodation in the town ahead of the ceremony.
The incident has since triggered controversy after reports alleged that his body was moved from the hotel in Akungba-Akoko to a mortuary in nearby Ikare-Akoko before a formal medical certification of death was issued.
Family members and church associates have reportedly raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding his death and the handling of his remains, prompting them to petition the police.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that an investigation has commenced to determine the exact cause of death and to establish whether any foul play was involved.
