The Director-General of the Presidential Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, is reportedly in police custody in Abuja following his arrest over the activities of the organisation, which government authorities have described as an unauthorised federal agency.
Sources familiar with the development said Adeyemi is being held at the headquarters of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), located at the former Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) facility in Guzape, where investigators have continued questioning him.
He was reportedly apprehended in Osun State by operatives of the IRT led by Chief Superintendent of Police Moses Lohor before being taken to Ibadan, Oyo State. From there, he was flown to Abuja aboard a private aircraft after a warrant for his arrest was said to have been issued by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Adeyemi was seen boarding the private jet on Thursday, shortly before his arrival in the Federal Capital Territory.
The investigation follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the controversy surrounding the PFIPC and submit its findings within 30 days.
When contacted, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, said he would verify Adeyemi’s whereabouts and provide an update. However, no further response had been received as of the time this report was filed.
A senior police officer, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, confirmed that Adeyemi remains in IRT custody.
According to the source, investigators are interrogating him over allegations linked to the operation of an organisation allegedly presented as a Federal Government agency, as well as other issues under investigation.
“He was arrested by IRT officials, not by any officers attached to any of the commands. So, he’s presently at IRT headquarters answering questions,” the source explained.
