As the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has continued to champion a policing philosophy anchored on community partnership, youth engagement, preventive policing, and non-kinetic approaches to crime reduction, and, in furtherance of this strategic vision, and under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, the Ogun State Police Command hosted over one hundred and fifty students of the National Association of Crime Management Students (NACRIMS), Federal Polytechnic Ilaro Chapter, alongside their lecturers and supervisors from the Department of Crime Management, on an educational excursion to the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
Police image maker for the state, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the educational visit formed part of the Command’s commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and academic institutions by exposing future crime management professionals to the practical realities of modern policing, intelligence-led crime prevention, and criminal justice administration. The engagement also reinforced the Force’s resolve to nurture a generation of law-abiding youths equipped with practical knowledge to contribute meaningfully to national security.
He disclosed the programme commenced with a comprehensive orientation on the organizational structure of the Nigeria Police Force, operational policing strategies, community policing philosophy, and intelligence-driven crime prevention initiatives. The State Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, welcomed the delegation and provided an insightful overview of the Command’s operational framework and its collaborative approach to maintaining peace, public safety, and security across Ogun State.
In an engaging sensitization session, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi enlightened the students on the dangers of cultism, substance abuse, cybercrime, violent extremism, and other emerging social vices through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), the Nigeria Police Force’s flagship non-kinetic crime prevention initiative. He emphasized the importance of integrity, discipline, responsible leadership, civic responsibility, and community partnership in preventing crime and building a safer society. He urged the students to become advocates of peace and ambassadors of the POCACOV initiative within their campuses and communities. At the conclusion of the session, the students collectively pledged to reject cultism, drug abuse, and all forms of criminality while embracing academic excellence, positive peer influence, and exemplary moral values.
Further enriching the excursion, the Command’s Legal Officer, ASP Saheed Abdulganiyu, Esq., delivered an enlightening lecture on police investigative procedures and the legal framework governing criminal justice administration in Nigeria. He carefully guided the students through the processes of receiving complaints, conducting professional investigations, observing constitutional safeguards during arrest, preserving evidence, respecting the rights of suspects, and prosecuting criminal matters before courts of competent jurisdiction. The interactive session afforded the students valuable practical insights into the administration of justice and the indispensable role of due process in policing.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, officers of the Command reaffirmed CP Bode Ojajuni’s unwavering commitment to promoting strategic partnerships with educational institutions as a critical component of preventive policing. They noted that continuous engagement with young people remains essential to building public trust, encouraging responsible citizenship, and preventing crime before it occurs, in line with the strategic policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
In their respective goodwill messages, the Head of the Department of Crime Management, Mrs. Adeoye K.T., and the President of the National Association of Crime Management Students (NACRIMS), Federal Polytechnic Ilaro Chapter, Comr. Makinde Ridwan Ayomide, expressed profound appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, and the Ogun State Police Command for the exceptional reception and invaluable learning experience. They described the excursion as highly impactful, noting that the practical exposure had significantly enriched the students’ academic knowledge and broadened their understanding of contemporary policing and crime management.
The Ogun State Police Command remains steadfast in implementing the strategic policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police through sustained community engagement, youth-focused initiatives, institutional partnerships, and proactive crime prevention programmes designed to foster public confidence and enhance the safety and security of all residents of Ogun State.
