Former p0rn actress sworn in as senator

Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz has officially assumed office as a senator in Colombia after winning election on a platform promoting the rights and welfare of workers in the adult entertainment industry.

Ortiz, widely known by her stage name, Amaranta Hank, secured a Senate seat during the March elections and has now been sworn in to represent Norte de Santander in the country’s legislature.

According to Colombian newspaper El Tiempo, Omaña will serve as a member of the left-wing Historic Pact coalition for the 2026–2030 legislative term after occupying the 23rd position on the alliance’s closed electoral list.

Official figures released by Colombia’s National Registry show that the Historic Pact emerged as the country’s largest political bloc, winning 22.72 per cent of votes cast in the Senate election. The coalition received more than 4.4 million votes, earning 25 seats.

Before entering politics, Omaña worked as a journalist before moving into the adult entertainment industry. She has repeatedly maintained that her previous career should not define or undermine her ability to serve as a lawmaker.

According to Infobae Colombia, the senator has argued that women involved in the sexual economy contribute significantly to the country’s economy and should be granted legal recognition instead of facing social stigma.

Responding to criticism over her election in a TikTok video, Omaña challenged those questioning her suitability for public office, asking, “¿Por qué una mujer que estuvo en la industria para adultos no puede aspirar a un cargo de elección popular?” which translates to why a woman who was in the adult industry cannot aspire to a popularly elected office.

The Cúcuta-born politician has also outlined plans to focus on mental health advocacy and initiatives aimed at tackling sexual abuse during her tenure in the Senate.

Her election has attracted widespread attention in Colombian politics, particularly after she and another former adult film performer, Juan Carlos Florián, were appointed to positions in the Ministry of Equality under President Gustavo Petro, a move that generated public debate within the administration.

Omaña’s inauguration is widely regarded as one of the most notable political developments in Colombia in recent years, reflecting changing attitudes toward representation and inclusion in the country’s political landscape.
