Suspected robbers have brutally attacked a schoolteacher, Isah Sallama, cutting off his hand during an incident in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to a statement released by the Secretary for Public Enlightenment of the Rano Emirate Council, Nasiru Habu Faragai, the attack happened on Wednesday night along Funkuyi Road in the Buran district.
Faragai explained that Sallama, who lives in Sarkin Bakar Rano, was assaulted while trying to assist another victim, Malam Sauwanu Hadi, whose motorcycle and mobile phone were being forcibly taken by the attackers.
He said the assailants initially attempted to shoot Sallama but were unsuccessful due to a malfunction in their weapon.
When the gun failed, they resorted to using a machete and chopped off his hand, leaving him in a critical condition,” the statement said.
The incident was formally reported to the Emir of Rano, Muhammad Isa Umaru, by the District Head of Bunkure, Alhaji Aminu Isa Umaru.
Reacting to the development, the emir described the attack as disturbing and directed that the matter be reported to security agencies for a thorough investigation.
He also approved a donation of N100,000 to support the victim’s medical treatment.
The monarch further urged community leaders and security operatives to intensify efforts to curb robbery and other criminal activities in the area.
