Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik was born in the early fifties. He attended local Quranic school very early in his life at Alfa Hassan Madrasat (Ile Kewu Alfa Hassan) at Akodudu Qtrs, Ilorin ; the same place where his father, Alh Abdulmalik, started his Quranic education.
Between 1959 and 1965, he attended Okelele and Okesuna Junior as well as senior primary schools.
He secured admission into a secondary school at Ejigbo in 1966 but his father, following his observation during a visit of the prevailing doctrine of the school, withdrew him and sent him to repeat Primary Seven at Ballah Primary School, living in the household of the then District Head of Owode (Daudu Ballah), Mallam Saidu Alao Omo Oloni.
In 1967, he was admitted to Ilorin College, Ilorin (now Government High School) where he became the first enrolled student ( 001) and finished in December 1971.
Soon after his Secondary school, he was employed in January 1972 by Federal Office Of Statistics for preparatory work for Census ’73. He left Census Office in early 1974, after a short period at Census Hqtrs in Lagos for post Census analysis assignment . He later worked with Kwara State Printing and Publishing company, publisher of The Heralds between 1974 and 77. Armed with his A’ level papers, he was admitted to Bayero University to read English late in 1977. As a student, he served as a member of the Editorial Board of Department of English and European Languages.
He earned his B A (Special Hons) English in 1980 and did his Youth Service assignment in Old Oyo State.
In 1981, he was employed by Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin in the Registry Department. By 1988 he rose to become Senior Assistant Registrar (Academic Secretary) but in 1989, he transferred his services to the then Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, now Ministry of Interior and rose to the enviable position of Asst Compt General of Immigration by the time he retired early in 2012.
While in the services of Nigeria Immigration Service, he attended several courses as well as seminars and was always among those in the top grades, ma sha Allahu. While on a course at Immigration Command And Staff College, Sokoto, he was a member of the Editorial Board and a lead writer.
Before he retired, he headed five Immigration Commands of Yobe, Adamawa, Ogun, Edo and Sokoto States, one after the other.
Alh Abdulmalik, who has always believed in community services was an active member of Muslim Students Society (MSS) and Ilorin Students Union (ISU) right from his secondary school days. He became the National President of Ilorin Students Union (ISU) between 1978 and 79.
It was while he was serving at the College of Education, Ilorin, that he first served as 1st Asst National Secretary of Ilorin Descendants Progressive Union (IDPU) in 1987 and later served as the National Secretary in 1988 and 1989. Between 2022 and 23, he served as IEDPU National Vice President. He became the National President in December 2023, through the wish and mercy of Allah SWT. He was re-elected unopposed as IEDPU President in December 2025 for another 2-year term.
In 2021, he was appointed a member of the Visitation Pannel to Federal University of Technology, Akure. In 2004, he had previously served as a member of the Committee on Assessment Tour of Prison Yards in Akwa Ibom representing Immigration. He had equally served as the Chairman of the Federal Govt Committee To Check the influx of foreign nationals and their activities in Yobe State between 2007 and 2008.
Back home, he is a member of the Working Committee of Ilorin Central Jumuah Mosque as well as a member of the Eid Praying Ground Development And Management Committee. He is also a member of Ilorin Durbar Committee.
At the family quarters, he is a member of Akodudu Assalatu Group while at the same time serving as an elder/ Advisor of Akodudu Progressive Union.
His hobbies include writing, reading and traveling. He has to his credit some publications as well as visited a number of cities in UK, USA, Saudi Arabia and West Africa.
He is happily married withv children and grandchildren, ma sha Allahu.
