Senior Police officer, Customs and notable leaders in Maritime sector have been selected to discuss ways on attaining improved Port technology efficiency at the forthcoming event of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) conference in Lagos.
The selected Maritime gurus and Police Commissioner, including politicians are expected to gather at the conference to outline problems hindering port efficiency and fine-tune on way forward, especially on technological aspect.
Announcing the lineup of industry leaders to headline the conference, AMJON disclosed that Mr. Bolaji Sunmola, Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC) is set to chair the event, and Hon. Muftau Egberoungbe, former member of the House Committee on Marine and Blue Economy will deliver the keynote address.
Also expected as Special Guests of Honour are the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western Command), Apapa, Lagos, CP Oluwatoyin Iyabode Agbaminoja; the Customs Area Comptroller, Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka; and the President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu.
According to the AMJON Organizing Committee Chairman, Mr Raymond Tedunjaye, the conference is scheduled to hold on April 30, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, beginning at 10am, with the theme: “Attaining Port Efficiency in the Face of Emerging Technology.”
Sunmola is expected to bring his extensive experience in maritime administration, port operations, and logistics management to the fore.
Tedunjaye noted that the NPCC Chairman has continued to champion stronger collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders, improved port infrastructure, and reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency.
“Egberoungbe, as keynote speaker, will provide critical insights into policy direction, legislative frameworks, and strategies for strengthening Nigeria’s marine and blue economy. His experience in legislative oversight of maritime institutions positions him to address key regulatory and developmental challenges in the sector”, Tedunjaye added.
The presence of CP Agbaminoja, Comptroller Onyeka, and Comrade Bunu is expected to further deepen discussions around port security, trade facilitation, labour relations, and operational efficiency within Nigeria’s port environment.
Tedunjaiye said that the AMJON conference remains a credible platform for high-level engagement on pressing issues in the maritime sector and the wider economy.
He noted that participants will include representatives from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Nigeria Police Force, maritime labour unions, terminal operators, and the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, among others.
According to him, key stakeholders such as port managers, shipping companies, and freight forwarders are also expected to participate in the discussions.
Another major highlight of the event will be the presentation of awards to individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to the maritime and business sectors.
Categories include Most Distinguished Female Entrepreneur of the Year, Most Resourceful Port Manager of the Year, and Most Outstanding Port Infrastructure Personality of the Year, among others.
Tedunjaiye added that resolutions from the conference will be documented and forwarded to relevant government authorities to support policy formulation and sectoral reforms.
AMJON reaffirmed its commitment to promoting informed dialogue, strengthening stakeholder collaboration, and advancing initiatives that enhance efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainable growth in Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy.
