Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has formally written to the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, seeking clarification over allegations that Ribadu’s office imported thallium sulphate, a highly dangerous toxin.

El-Rufai disclosed the development on his verified social media pages on Sunday, describing the chemical as “very dangerous” and warning about the risks associated with the importation of odourless and colourless poisons.

A copy of the letter, seen by Legit.ng, indicates it was delivered to Ribadu’s office on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. In his post, El-Rufai stated:

“As part of my duty as a citizen, I wrote to the NSA to seek clarification on reports about the importation by his office of thallium sulphate, a very dangerous toxin. It’s a matter of concern if anyone brings in any poison, more so an odourless, colourless one.”

Alleged Attempted Arrest at Abuja Airport

The former governor also claimed that Ribadu ordered his arrest at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday, February 12, shortly after his return from Egypt. In an interview with Arise Television on Friday, February 13, El-Rufai said he was briefly restrained by security operatives, his international passport confiscated, and was escorted out of the airport while supporters chanted around him.

El-Rufai further alleged that the NSA’s phone calls were intercepted, and that Ribadu personally directed the security team to detain him.

Political Implications Ahead of 2027 Elections

Sources close to the opposition leader confirmed that El-Rufai is not contesting any position in the 2027 elections. His current focus, they say, is mobilising against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term agenda.

A political associate aligned with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar revealed that El-Rufai’s main goal is to push back Tinubu and his allies politically, particularly in Lagos.

The full letter to the NSA is publicly available on social media platforms.
