Lagos, July 8, 2026 – The Police Command in Lagos State says it has arrested now fewer than 135 suspected cultists during raids of the hideout.
The commandos spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Adebisi said that the arrests were made by operatives comprising Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders, and the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
She said that that thw operatives acted on the directive of the Commissioner of Police inLagos, CP Tijani Fatai, and on credible intelligence.
Adebisi said that the operatives conducted a simultaneous raids across identified criminal hideouts and black spots within the State to prevent cult-related violence associated with the 7/7 celebration/initiation.

She said: “The operation led to the arrest of 135 suspected cultists and the recovery of 26 firearms, 16 other dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, battle axes, dagars and knives, cultist insignia, assorted charms, 11 bottles of different alcoholic brands, substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs, as well as six mobile phones.
“The operation followed intelligence indicating plans by rival cult groups to launch attacks and engage in other criminal activities.
” Investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal gangs, while the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,”.
