The Police Service Commission (PSC) has launched a 4-day Comprehensive Data Protection Awareness Programme at its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja. The event was officially flagged open by the PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd).
According to Torty Njoku Kalu, the Commission’s spokesman, in his opening address, DIG Argungu emphasized the critical nature of data security in modern policing and public administration. He urged participants to take full advantage of the programme to strengthen the Commission’s capacity for effective data protection in line with Nigerian Data Protection Regulations.
Organised by Charistech Consulting Ltd., a licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisation, in partnership with the PSC, the training aims to equip PSC officials with vital knowledge on regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and secure data handling. The Chief Executive Officer of Charistech Consulting Ltd., Mr. Philip Aiwekhoe, noted that the curriculum is strictly aligned with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.
The programme, running from September 21st to 24th, is structured to accommodate all staff and Board Members. Prospective Data Protection Officers (DPOs) will attend a dedicated session on September 23rd.
Specifically tailored for teams handling sensitive operations, the training is designed to foster a culture of security and privacy awareness. Facilitators noted that the initiative will help the Commission reduce the risk of data breaches and ensure organizational compliance.
Officials of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) were also on ground to observe the process.
