The Edo State Police Command has provided succour to 21 families of police officers who paid the supreme price or were injured in the line of duty, with the disbursement of ₦39,869,356.43 to their next-of-kin.
The beneficiaries received their cheques at the Police Command Headquarters in Benin, on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, under the Nigeria Police Force Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme.
The State Police Commissioner, Patrick Daaor*, who presented the cheques, said the initiative is a deliberate effort by the Force to show that sacrifice in service will not go unrewarded.
According to him, the event was more than just cheque presentation.
“Today is a significant moment for the Edo State Police Command. We are not merely presenting cheques; we are reaffirming our commitment to the welfare of our personnel and their families,” Daaor said.
The Edo police boss admitted that money cannot fill the vacuum created by death or injury, but said the support will help ease the burden on affected families.
“While no amount of money can replace a lost loved one or erase the pain of injury, this support will, hopefully, provide some relief to the affected families and remind them that the Nigeria Police Force does not forget those who have sacrificed in its service,” he noted.
He described the payment as a token of gratitude for the selfless service of the fallen officers.
“To our beneficiaries, please kindly accept this as a modest expression of our appreciation for the sacrifices made by your loved ones. May God continue to bless and protect the Nigeria Police Force and grant eternal rest to our fallen heroes,” he added.
In their response, some of the beneficiaries, who fought back tears, commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the Edo Command for not abandoning them.
The Group Life Assurance Scheme is one of the welfare programmes of the Nigeria Police Force to cater for officers killed or maimed in the course of national duty.
