FCID Annex, Lagos Strengths Capacity In Cryptocurrency Crime Investigation Through International Training

The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, under the leadership of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom psc fdc mspsp MNIM, has facilitated a specialized training programme on Cryptocurrency Tracing, Analysis and Investigation for officers of the Department.

 

The training, according to the spokeswoman , ASP Aminat, Mayegun, held on Wednesday, 15 April 2026, was organized in collaboration with the United States Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) – Regional Security Office and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) through the U.S. Consulate General, Lagos.

 

A seven-member team from the U.S. Consulate General facilitated the training at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) Lagos Annex, where officers drawn from various sections of FCID Annex participated in practical sessions on cryptocurrency tracing, blockchain analysis, and investigation of crypto-related crimes.

 

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, represented by the Officer-in-Charge NPF-NCCC Annex,Lagos SP Smart Abubakar, commended the U.S. Consulate team for their continued partnership in strengthening the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force to combat evolving cyber threats. He reaffirmed the commitment of FCID Annex to leveraging international collaboration and advanced training to enhance effective policing.

 

This initiative further demonstrates the commitment of the FCID Annex to improving operational readiness in addressing sophisticated cyber-enabled crimes.
