How we foiled major bomb blast in government house – Gov Aiyedatiwa

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has disclosed that security operatives recently thwarted an alleged plan by a group of youths to attack the Ondo State Government House with explosives following intelligence-led operations.

The governor made the disclosure during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he highlighted what he described as significant security gains recorded by the state in recent months.

Aiyedatiwa explained that security agencies received intelligence reports about three to four months ago indicating that some youths were allegedly plotting an attack on the state’s seat of power.

According to him, the suspects first stayed in a hotel before moving into a rented apartment, where they allegedly continued activities linked to the planned attack.

Acting on the information, a joint team comprising police officers and personnel of the Amotekun Corps raided the apartment and apprehended the suspects. Items believed to be connected to the alleged operation were also recovered during the raid.

“Following intelligence reports, the police and Amotekun moved in, raided the location, arrested the suspects, and they remain in custody,” the governor said.

He stated that investigations are continuing to establish the motive behind the alleged plot, stressing that the incident highlights the need for sustained intelligence gathering and proactive security measures.

Aiyedatiwa noted that many successful security interventions often receive little public attention because they prevent attacks before they happen.

“So much work is being done. Security is one responsibility that leaders carry that is not so visible to everybody. It is only when there is a lapse that it will look as if the government has not been doing enough. We have been doing so much,” he stated.

The governor further revealed that governors in the South-West region have intensified cooperation on security through intelligence sharing and coordinated efforts involving regional security outfits, including Amotekun.

His remarks came as he welcomed the conviction of four individuals connected to the June 5, 2022 attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, describing the verdict as a triumph for justice and the rule of law.

He assured residents that his administration remains committed to safeguarding lives and property through improved surveillance, intelligence-driven operations and stronger collaboration among security agencies.
