The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity and recovered firearms, ammunition and other dangerous weapons during an intelligence-led operation in Imota.
The suspects, identified as Jelili Adeyemo, 37, Bisoye Adewale, 42, and John Okeafo, 60, were apprehended following credible intelligence from residents on the activities of suspected cultists in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Abimbola Adebisi said in a statement that Adeyemo is believed to be the armourer of the group.
Items recovered from the suspects include a Beretta pistol, a locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, a stun gun, two handcuffs and four cutlasses.
According to Adebisi, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects belong to the Aiye Confraternity, while the recovered Beretta pistol allegedly belongs to a wanted cult leader identified only as “Mayibone,” who remains at large.
She disclosed that the suspects have been arraigned and remanded, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing gang members and recover more weapons.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s determination to combat cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
He urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the police in identifying criminal elements and enhancing security across Lagos.
