Hakeem Bello
He is a former Editor of the Daily Times and currently MD/CEO of Global Citirep Communications Limited, a strategic media relations, corporate communications and reputation management firm.
His professional journey has taken him through newsroom leadership, public communication, government advisory, crisis communication and strategic messaging.
For four years, he served as Editor of the Daily Times, Nigeria’s oldest surviving newspaper, during its fully printed national-newspaper era, with all the editorial, production and circulation demands that came with that responsibility.
He later spent 16 years as media and communications adviser to Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, first as Governor of Lagos State and later as Minister of the Federal Republic.
Through Global Citirep Communications Limited, he now supports public institutions, development-oriented organisations and high-profile personalities in strategic communication planning, media relations, public affairs advisory, crisis communication, speech and editorial drafting, digital communication management, stakeholder engagement and content-production supervision.
A widely travelled media executive, Bello before going into public service represented Africa on the Governing Board of the World Editors Forum (WEF). He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and Member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), among other professional organisations.
An accomplished author, Hakeem Bello is author of The Interpreters: Ritual, Violence and Social Regeneration in the Writing of Wole Soyinka; In Bold Print: Thoughts of Babatunde Fashola; and The Lagos Blow Down: West Africa’s First Controlled Demolition in conjunction with Dapo Adeniyi; and several others.
He is married to Engr.(Mrs) Habibat Bello and they are blessed with children.
