ABUJA — The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved a major redeployment of senior officers to command, operational and staff positions across the Nigerian Army. The shake-up is designed to boost operational effectiveness, reinforce leadership, and align the Army’s structure with the country’s current security realities. According to the Service, the postings focus on key theatres and strategic appointments to ensure experienced leadership is placed where it is most needed.
At the top command level, Major General I.A. Ajose moves from Army Headquarters, Department of Army Operations, to lead the Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, as Theatre Commander. Major General A.E. Abubakar is redeployed from OPHK to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Dean, Faculty of Operational Research. Other major changes include Major General R.T. Utsaha as Commander, DHQ Garrison; Major General A.M. Umar as Commandant, Army War College Nigeria; Major General U.M. Alkali to the Department of Civil-Military Affairs; Major General G.S. Muhammed as DG, Nigerian Army Finance Corporation; Major General J.E. Osifo as Chairman, Military Pension Board; and Major General I.E. Ekpenyong as Director of Engineering Services, DHQ Department of Defence Logistics.
In operational appointments, Brigadier General A.A. Bello moves to DHQ Department of Defence Operations, while Brigadier General M.S. Adamu takes charge of the newly created 8 Brigade. Brigadier General M.S. Sule is now Commander, 27 Task Force Brigade. Brigadier General I. Sule assumes command of 6 Division Garrison, Brigadier General E. Azenda moves to 2 Division Garrison, and Brigadier General A.S. Bugaje becomes Director Administration at the Land Forces Simulation Centre. The COAS charged the officers to provide exemplary leadership, drive operational innovation, and remain committed to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and supporting civil authorities. The Army noted the redeployment is part of efforts to sustain a responsive leadership structure that enhances joint operations and addresses emerging threats.
