Access Bank Debunks Fake Shutdown Notice, Assures Customers of Stable Operations

Access Bank Plc has dismissed as false and misleading a viral social media message claiming that the bank has been shut down, assuring customers, partners and stakeholders that it remains financially strong and fully operational.
In a disclaimer issued by its management, the bank described the circulating message, which falsely impersonates its official communication channels on social media and WhatsApp, as a deliberate attempt to spread panic and disrupt business activities.
The bank reassured customers that all its banking services across subsidiaries are functioning seamlessly, stressing that its operations remain stable and that it continues to provide services with the highest standards of excellence.
According to the statement, “Access Bank is safe, financially strong and fully operational across all our subsidiaries. Our services continue to run seamlessly, and we remain committed to serving our customers with the highest standards of excellence.”

The financial institution disclosed that it has commenced collaboration with relevant regulatory agencies and law enforcement authorities to identify those responsible for creating and circulating the false information.
It warned that those behind the fake publication would face appropriate legal action in line with existing laws and regulations.
The bank also reminded members of the public that the deliberate creation, publication and dissemination of false information capable of causing public panic, damaging reputations or undermining confidence in institutions is a criminal offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
Management urged customers and the general public to ignore the fake message and refrain from forwarding or sharing it on any platform, noting that such actions only contribute to the spread of misinformation.
Instead, the bank advised the public to rely solely on information released through Access Bank’s official and verified communication channels for accurate updates concerning its operations.
The statement expressed appreciation to customers, partners and stakeholders for their continued confidence in the institution despite the circulation of the false report.

Access Bank reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the trust of its customers through transparent communication, uninterrupted banking services and strict adherence to regulatory standards.
The development highlights the growing challenge posed by fake news and online misinformation, particularly when targeted at critical institutions such as financial organisations, underscoring the need for the public to verify information before sharing it on digital platforms.
