The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, on Sunday, 16th August 2026, charged all Divisional Police Officers and MOTOPOL personnel of the Command to ensure strict enforcement of traffic laws and the arrest and prosecution of traffic offenders. The directive is aimed at promoting road safety, ensuring the free flow of traffic and preventing avoidable loss of lives and property arising from traffic violations and reckless driving across the Federal Capital Territory.
According to a press statement signed by SP Josephine Adeh, the Command spokeswoman,the CP directed officers to clamp down on motorists who drive against traffic, popularly known as “one-way,” as well as other forms of dangerous driving. He also directed personnel to intensify patrols and surveillance around major roads, traffic-congested areas, junctions and stop signs, with a view to identifying and arresting traffic robbers who exploit traffic congestion and stops to dispossess unsuspecting road users of their valuables.
The CP further charged officers to carry out the enforcement exercise with professionalism, civility and strict adherence to the rule of law. He warned personnel against using the exercise as an avenue for extortion, harassment, intimidation or unlawful use of force, stressing that any officer found abusing the rights of members of the public or violating the directive will face strict disciplinary action.
The Command urges motorists and other road users to remain law-abiding, obey traffic signs, refrain from reckless driving and other traffic violations.
