The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, felicitates with Nigerians on the occasion of the nation’s 66th Independence Anniversary, wishing citizens at home and abroad a peaceful, prosperous and meaningful celebration, as he called on citizens for urgent transformation.
CP Ojajuni made the call earlier today at the Independence Day celebration organised by The International Friendship League (IFL), themed “Nigeria at 66: A Call to Citizenship Transformation.” The event, held at the Presidential Conference Hall, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, featured a symposium themed “Transformed Citizens, Transformed Nation” and brought together leaders, professionals, academics and stakeholders from diverse sectors of national life.
Speaking at the symposium, the Commissioner described the gathering as more than an Independence Day celebration, but a platform for reflection and meaningful dialogue on leadership, national values and Nigeria’s future.
Drawing from his experience in policing and leadership, CP Ojajuni emphasised that “the future should always be taken into cognisance,” urging Nigerians to recognise that today’s decisions, conduct and values have consequences for generations yet unborn.

Reflecting on the importance of preserving knowledge and national values, the Commissioner recalled that when some professors asked why he wanted to pursue a PhD, he explained that his desire was “to give future generations the knowledge of the past, so that our values and lessons would not die with us.”
He identified integrity, discipline, knowledge, service and respect for shared values as essential to national development, stressing that transformation must begin with individuals and be reflected in leadership, institutions and society.
CP Ojajuni commended The International Friendship League for providing a platform for meaningful dialogue on citizenship, leadership and national development. He urged Nigerians to use the Independence anniversary to renew their commitment to the Nigeria project, noting that the nation inherited by future generations will be shaped by the choices made today.
