The Ogun State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Bode Ojajuni, today commenced a two-day stakeholders’ workshop on “Elections, Security, the Law, Stakeholders & the Media” at Event Towers, Ibara, Abeokuta, as part of deliberate early preparations for the 2027 General Elections.
Organised in collaboration with the Development Communication Research Centre Ltd (DCRC), the workshop was formally opened by the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON, represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Rtd. AIG Sola Subair. In his message, the Governor emphasised the collective responsibility of security agencies, electoral institutions, political parties, the media and other stakeholders in preserving electoral peace and protecting the integrity of the democratic process.
According to DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the spokesman of the police in the state, said Ojajuni stressed that election security is not an election-day assignment. He called for early preparation, professionalism, political neutrality, effective intelligence sharing, respect for fundamental rights and coordinated engagement among stakeholders. He reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to deploy its personnel and resources professionally to maintain a safe, secure and peaceful environment throughout the electoral cycle.The workshop has attracted key stakeholder.

Representing the operational structure of the Command are the Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police, all 16 Area Commanders and their respective Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Squadron Commanders and Tactical Commanders, alongside INEC, IPAC, the Nigerian Army, DSS, NSCDC, FRSC, Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, Vigilante groups, NHRC, Nigeria Customs Service, NUJ, NBA, PCRC, political parties, media organisations and civil society groups.
Professor Bolu John Folayan, MNIPR, Executive Consultant to the workshop, underscored the need for stakeholders to understand their respective responsibilities under the 1999 Constitution, Electoral Act and Police Act, noting that clearer understanding of these roles will strengthen coordination and reduce avoidable friction during the electoral process.
The technical sessions include a keynote presentation by Professor Fassy Adetokunboh Yusuf, PhD, LLM, fnipr, addressing the intersection of elections, security, the law, professional conduct and responsible communication.
The workshop continues tomorrow, 30th September 2026, with further sessions on election security, stakeholder responsibilities, community engagement, media relations and contemporary social media management.
