The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Sada Tambai, in connection with the alleged killing of his 80-year-old father, Adamu Tambai.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 21 at Mundadu Village in Bindawa Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Katsina.
Sadiq-Aliyu said the police were alerted to the incident following a distress call from the District Head of Bindawa, Dan Yusufan Katsina.
According to him, the district head reported that Adamu Tambai, a former Ward Head of Mundadu, had been found lying motionless outside his residence.
The police spokesman said officers were promptly dispatched to the scene, after which the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
He, however, said the attending doctor pronounced Adamu Tambai dead on arrival.
Sadiq-Aliyu said preliminary police investigations subsequently resulted in the arrest of the deceased’s son.
He said the suspect allegedly admitted during interrogation to striking his father on the head with a stick.
According to the PPRO, the injuries allegedly inflicted during the attack were responsible for the elderly man’s death.
Following the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, ordered that the case be transferred immediately to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Sadiq-Aliyu said the directive was intended to ensure a discreet and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
He added that the suspect would be taken before a court after investigators conclude their work.
The police command also sympathised with the bereaved family and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that justice was served in accordance with the law.
