RESPONSIBLE COMMUNICATION: THE VOICE OF THE WORLD

RESPONSIBLE COMMUNICATION: THE VOICE OF THE WORLD

By DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi

As a public relations professional, I was delighted yesterday to join my dear professional family, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Ogun State Chapter, on a sensitisation walk in support of the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) Abuja 2026, scheduled for November.

For me, responsible communication goes beyond crafting messages, it is about building trust, protecting credibility and shaping perceptions through truth, professionalism and integrity. As a public relations practitioner, I recognise that every word, report and public engagement can influence public confidence in institutions and how Nigeria is perceived.

In an era of misinformation, ethical journalism and responsible public relations must work together to tell Nigeria’s story accurately, acknowledge our challenges honestly and showcase our achievements responsibly.

Shaping Nigeria’s image begins with how we communicate. Our voices must inform, unite and inspire confidence, because communication is not just about being heard; it is about making a positive difference.
