The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has continued to promote community-oriented policing and non-kinetic approaches to crime prevention, including initiatives such as POCACOV, which engages communities and young people in building safer societies.
My experience with Bolaji Ridwan Bolaji Olamilekan brought this principle home to me.
At a PCRC Ogun State event at Olumo Rock, I noticed Bolaji’s remarkable artistic talent and skill with a camera. On making enquiries, I discovered that he was not in school. I could not simply walk away, so I decided to take responsibility for his schooling.
With the support of the PCRC Ogun State, my esteemed CP, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, family and friends, that decision has become a reality.
I recently took Bolaji to AKINPOLA MODEL SCHOOL to resume. I deliberately went as an ordinary parent and was impressed by the professionalism of the Principal, teachers and non-teaching staff. The standard was remarkable and comparable to what one would expect in a well-managed private school.
I sincerely appreciate the Executive Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Hon. Idowu Daniel Oluwagbemileke, Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, and the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Mariam Oluwatosin Oloko, for their commitment to raising standards in our public schools.
For me, this is the essence of non-kinetic policing: preventing tomorrow’s crime can begin with giving a child a reason to choose a different path today.
